This is the first offering in a series of 3 Workshops.
Suitable for absolute beginners of all ages – younger children need to be supervised when using sharp tools and blades. The images in this description are simply representational of what you will learn to create in this workshop.
In the first workshop we'll learn the techniques involved in creating simple, glue bound and hand sewn bindings, with a minimum of expense and no experience. We'll be recycling materials we already have around our homes to create beautiful books and re-purposing tools from other projects. Professional tools and materials can come later when you decide you love bookbinding and want to take it even further. For now, we'll just keep it simple and work with what we have to hand to the best of our abilities. Think of it like a challenge to exercise both the left and the right side of your brain – all you need is a little imagination and someone to show you how.
This is the first in a series of three classes aimed at teaching you how to create beautiful but simple books by hand. Through video and pdf instructions I will guide you through the basic techniques, helping you to apply your own creative flair and any skills you may have from other hobbies, at the same time. There is no end to the possibilities in bookbinding once you know where to start and in each class you'll make at least 2 books, with plenty of ideas and prompts to make even more! What's more, you can jump in any time depending on your skill level and there is no requirement to take class 1 in order to do class 2, although complete beginners would be advised to begin with class 1.
Series 2 and 3 will roll out successively after Series 1 has started.
