Yes, there is a face behind the name
Shabby Cottage Studio was opened in 2007 by Gail Schmidt. Gail is no stranger to creating art or running a business. She has been creating art for the past twenty years and the last ten of those years also running a business. Life changes and three big moves within that time frame led to the closing of a brick and mortar store, to selling on Ebay and finally the opening of the online store.
Gail lives on an acre of land in a 1924 farmhouse cottage in the mountains of Tennessee, where she foresees no more moves and can turn her focus on the store, to nurture and grow the business. Also residing in the cottage is her hubby (also known as Mr. Shabby) of over 20 years, who has always supported whatever she turned her mind to. Their two very spoiled children also live with them, Cleo, the wussy Dalmation, and Gracie the rescue kitty, who not only likes to intimidate Cleo but hang out on Gail's shoulder and the computer keyboard. The farmhouse is slowly being updated and brought into the 21st century.
Creating has always been Gail's prime motivator and happiness generator. Her artistic background is varied, having tried her hand at several mediums. From teaching decorative painting, to operating a faux finishing and mural painting business, she eventually discovered mixed media and collage work and is striving to expand her knowledge and her skills in this fascinating artistic arena.
Selling supplies through Shabby Cottage Studio is a natural outgrowth of loving to create. What artist doesn't love supplies?! And being a working artist Gail feels it gives her an understanding of other artists and their love of supplies and their constant look for inspiration. She also works hard to offer good communication and value to her customers. These are important to her.
With those thoughts of artists seeking inspiration spurring her on, Gail also opened Creative Workshops where a variety of art classes are taught by varied teachers via video within an online workshop venue. Video is a perfect marriage for classes and offering them online. This venue allows others to work at their own pace, within the boundaries of today's busy lives and schedules. Gail says "I like to hope that somewhere along the line
I am giving to others the wings of possibilities in return for the possibilities offered me in life."
